The Project Life Cycle

The project manager and project team have one shared goal: to carry out the work of the project for the purpose of meeting the project’s objectives. Every project has beginnings, a middle period during which activities move the project toward completion, and an ending (either successful or unsuccessful). A standard project typically has the following four major phases (each with its own agenda of tasks and issues): initiation, planning, execution, and closure. Taken together, these phases represent the path a project takes from the beginning to its end and are generally referred to as the project

Initiation phase

During the first of these phases, the initiation phase, the project objective or need is identified; this can be a business problem or opportunity. An appropriate response to the need is documented in a business case with recommended solution options. A feasibility study is conducted to investigate whether each option addresses the project objective and a final recommended solution is determined. Issues of feasibility (“can we do the project?”) and justification (“should we do the project?”) are addressed.

Once the recommended solution is approved, a project is initiated to deliver the approved solution and a project manager is appointed. The major deliverables and the participating work groups are identified and the project team begins to take shape. Approval is then sought by the project manager to move on the detailed planning phase.

Planning phase

The next phase, the planning phase, is where the project solution is further developed in as much detail as possible and you plan the steps necessary to meet the project’s objective. In this step, the team identifies all of the work to be done. The project’s tasks and resource requirements are identified, along with the strategy for producing them. This is also referred to as scope management. A project plan is created outlining the activities, tasks, dependencies and timeframes. The project manager coordinates the preparation of a project budget; by providing cost estimates for the labor, equipment and materials costs. The budget is used to monitor and control cost expenditures during project execution.

Once the project team has identified the work, prepared the schedule and estimated the costs, the three fundamental components of the planning process are complete. This is an excellent time to identify and try to deal with anything that might pose a threat to the successful completion of the project. This is called risk management. In risk management, “high-threat” potential problems are identified along with the action that is to be taken on each high threat potential problem, either to reduce the probability that the problem will occur or to reduce the impact on the project if it does occur. This is also a good time to identify all project stakeholders, and to establish a communication plan describing the information needed and the delivery method to be used to keep the stakeholders informed.

Finally, you will want to document a quality plan; providing quality targets, assurance, and control measures along with an acceptance plan; listing the criteria to be met to gain customer acceptance. At this point, the project would have been planned in detail and is ready to be executed.

Execution phase

During the third phase, the execution phase, the project plan is put into motion and performs the work of the project. It is important to maintain control and communicate as needed during execution. Progress is continuously monitored and appropriate adjustments are made and recorded as variances from the original plan. In any project a project manager will spend most of their time in this step. During project execution, people are carrying out the tasks and progress information is being reported through regular team meetings. The project manager uses this information to maintain control over the direction of the project by measuring the performance of the project activities comparing the results with the project plan and takes corrective action as needed. The first course of action should always be to bring the project back on course, i.e., to return it to the original plan. If that cannot happen, the team should record variations from the original plan and record and publish modifications to the plan. Throughout this step, project sponsors and other key stakeholders should be kept informed of project status according to the agreed upon frequency and format. The plan should be updated and published on a regular basis

Status reports should always emphasize the anticipated end point in terms of cost, schedule and quality of deliverables. Each project deliverable produced should be reviewed for quality and measured against the acceptance criteria. Once all of the deliverables have been produced and the customer has accepted the final solution, the project is ready for closure.

Closure phase

During the final closure, or closeout phase, the emphasis is on releasing the final deliverables to the customer, handing over project documentation to the business, terminating supplier contracts, releasing project resources and communicating the closure of the project to all stakeholders. The last remaining step is to conduct lessons learned studies; to examine what went well and what didn’t. Through this type of analysis the wisdom of experience is transferred back to the project organization, which will help future project teams.

Why is dial up up slow? Do you double click the network icon and check the connection speed? If I feel my dial up is slow, I'll disconnect, redial and try again. I may also try an access number to a different local city.

There is a wealth of products and information on the internet promising 56k connection and a faster modem speed. There is very little information explaining why sometimes dial up is slow no matter what you try. Many people can't connect at higher dial up modem speed due to the distance they live from the phone company.

If housing is situated too far from the phone company the phone signal will slowly degrade in quality the longer the distance the signal has to travel. The signal will also become weak, making it difficult to get decent 56k modem speed due to diminished signal strength. It would be necessary for the phone company to amplify the phone signal as is before it gets to your 56k speed modem. That amplifier is known as a repeater or line repeater. Line repeaters extend the reach of the phone company to its customers. Unfortunately any distortions get amplified and distributed as well. An amplified phone signal is inherently flawed and will adversely effect 56k modem speed.

Phone companies may also opt to incorporate a line repeater within their network because it makes the network less expensive to build and maintain. Lets say 3 houses were built 10 miles from the phone company. In order to get phone service to each house, the phone company would have to run an individual phone line to each house. Thats 3 phone lines, each 10 miles long.

Now imagine being able to run one phone line 9 miles to a line repeater. The phone signal arrives at the repeater, is amplified then split into 3 signals. Each signal is then sent out to each home along 3 lines that are only 1 mile long each. If we didnt have line repeaters there would be a thick mass of phone lines everywhere. You get the idea.

Keep in mind analog phone networks were originally built to carry verbal communications, not digital dial up modem signals. That is why sometimes depending on where you live, maximum attainable dial up internet connect speed on an amplified signal is 33.6k or less. Call your local phone company to find out if you are on a repeater. If you are on a phone network that doesn't have a repeater between you and the phone company, you'll likely achieve modem baud rate closer to 56k modem speed.

Shakira approached by makers of Kali-the warrior goddess

Colombian singer Shakira has been approached by UK based film producer Karan Arora to star in a 3D VFX movie Kali-the warrior Goddess.

Arora told PTI that the singer of Hips don't lie and Waka Waka fame is "excited" about the role and is very keen to take up the project.

According to Arora, Shakira fits in the film pretty well. "We are fine tuning the association and it will be finalised after negotiations, paper work, documentation," he added.

"The casting is still in the initial stages. We started pre-production little less than a year ago. The film will be set in the imaginary world and no timelines have been set. Hence, there will not be any real location in the film. It will be similar to James Cameron's Avatar but not as big,"
Arora said.

He denied the film has got anything to do with scriptures. "It's a fiction movie. Only the look, feel and fabric is inspired by Hindu Mythology. The story is different than what people may expect," he added.

Kali-the warrior Goddess will be directed by Simon Hunter with technicians from USA, UK and Research team from Kolkata to work on the look of the movie.

Arora who is the CEO of High Grounds Entertainment Ltd will produce the movie in association with noted sound recordist Walter Anderson.

Arora said "Kali" will not be typical song and dance movie. "One will not see Shakira as we are used to seeing her dance.The movie will not hurt anybody's sentiments," he added.

The movie will go on floors in April next year and is slated for a 2013 release, he added.

Meanwhile, Arora said his other production Bhindi Bazar, the Dipti Naval-Manisha Koirala starrer is in the final stages of post production and will be released in November.

Arora's Picture Thoughts Production is also in the process of finalising two more projects Padosi and Let's Talk Love.

Padosi is set in 1949 in a village bordering India and Pakistan and it stars Vinay Pathak and Ranvir Shorey.

"The movie will be directed by newcomer Pritam Jolly. Gulzar has liked the script and is likely to pen the lyrics," he said.

Let's Talk Love will be shot in Fiji and will be directed by Nandita Kothari. It stars Madhavan and Prachi Desai. "We are talking to Arjun Rampal for another important role," Arora added.

One Time Password is a two factor authentication method where you can enable all logins from unknown devices to use One Time Password to ensure that only you can login from an unknown device. By making use of this, there are only two ways for the hacker to use your Facebook identity. One is to steal your recognized device which is your computer or smartphone. The other way is to steal your mobile phone to get the one time password.

5. Logging out from Facebook

Though it might seems to be the easiest, but it is the action that most people forget to perform. Whenever most people are done with checking and replying messages in Facebook, they just close the web browser and walk away from the computer assuming that the session is logged out. Unfortunately, that is a big gamble and not all the web browsers works the same. Some still retain your previous session even though the web browser is closed. Remember to logout. However, now you can also manage your sessions wherein you can perform a remote logout to the computer in which you had just closed the web browser without proper logout.

Improving themes in Gmail’s new look

One of the most visible improvements in last week’s Gmail update is the entirely new theme system and the new high definition themes that it supports. This refresh to themes both simplifies them and makes them more immersive. You can browse what some of the new themes look like below:

Themes are now implemented as semitransparent layers on top of a large background image. Each theme uses either a dark or light variant of most UI elements to balance legibility and visibility of the background image, allowing the background image to peek through and provide color and personality. How Does GPS Work?

Global Positioning System satellites transmit signals to equipment on the ground. GPS receivers passively receive satellite signals; they do not transmit. GPS receivers require an unobstructed view of the sky, so they are used only outdoors and they often do not perform well within forested areas or near tall buildings. GPS operations depend on a very accurate time reference, which is provided by atomic clocks at the U.S. Naval Observatory. Each GPS satellite has atomic clocks on board.

Each GPS satellite transmits data that indicates its location and the current time. All GPS satellites synchronize operations so that these repeating signals are transmitted at the same instant. The signals, moving at the speed of light, arrive at a GPS receiver at slightly different times because some satellites are farther away than others. The distance to the GPS satellites can be determined by estimating the amount of time it takes for their signals to reach the receiver. When the receiver estimates the distance to at least four GPS satellites, it can calculate its position in three dimensions.
There are at least 24 operational GPS satellites at all times. The satellites, operated by the U.S. Air Force, orbit with a period of 12 hours. Ground stations are used to precisely track each satellite's orbit.
Determining Position
A GPS receiver "knows" the location of the satellites, because that information is included in satellite transmissions. By estimating how far away a satellite is, the receiver also "knows" it is located somewhere on the surface of an imaginary sphere centered at the satellite. It then determines the sizes of several spheres, one for each satellite. The receiver is located where these spheres intersect.

GPS Accuracy
The accuracy of a position determined with GPS depends on the type of receiver. Most hand-held GPS units have about 10-20 meter accuracy. Other types of receivers use a method called Differential GPS (DGPS) to obtain much higher accuracy. DGPS requires an additional receiver fixed at a known location nearby. Observations made by the stationary receiver are used to correct positions recorded by the roving units, producing an accuracy greater than 1 meter.

When the system was created, timing errors were inserted into GPS transmissions to limit the accuracy of non-military GPS receivers to about 100 meters. This part of GPS operations, called Selective Availability, was eliminated in May 2000.

Description

Do a search on YouTube and you'll turn up literally dozens of video clips of LED cubes, small 3x3x3 cubes, bi-colour, RGB and mono cubes, amazing 16 x 16 x 16 RGB cubes. However, very few show you how to make one and provide the firmware.

The cube described on this page uses a 5 x 5 x 5 matrix of single colour LEDs. This is a good size to experiment with as the number of LEDs required at 125 keeps the cost down, doesn't take too long to assemble and just fits onto a eurocard sized PCB. The power requirement is under 1 amp and the use of just one colour keeps both the hardware construction and control software fairly simple.

The project includes a ready to program HEX file with some demo cube animations and also the source code. The firmware implements a simple macro drawing processor command set so if you've got some programming skills you can create your own animations for the cube.

Although the project on this page uses a PCB, the original prototype (see below) was constructed on a prototype pad board so if you're not able to make your own PCB it's still possible to make this project yourself. (we've now had some PCB's manufactured - you can buy one from the on-line shop )

REUTERS - A new biography of late Apple Inc co-founder Steve Jobs hit book-shelves on Monday, offering arguably the most comprehensive, insightful look to date at the life and times of the revered technology visionary.

Below are excerpts from the tome, penned by Walter Isaacson, relating to Apple and Jobs' sometimes stormy, often difficult relationship with Silicon Valley, partners and rivals, and how Jobs communicated his key business beliefs.

JOBS' RESIGNATION AS CEO:

Jobs was wheeled into a board meeting on August 24, 2011, the day he handed Apple's reins to Tim Cook.

As Jobs' health deteriorated, he wrestled with the decision for weeks, discussing it with his wife, board member Bill Campbell, design chief Jonathan Ive and attorney George Riley.

When he finally made up his mind, arrangements were made to have him driven to 1 Infinite Loop and wheeled into the boardroom as secretly as possible.

"One of the things I wanted to do for Apple was to set an example of how do you transfer power right," Jobs told Isaacson. He added later that evening that his hope was to remain as active as his health allowed.

MAKING AN ENEMY OUT OF GOOGLE INC:

Isaacson's account of Jobs' blow-up over Google's entry into the smartphone market underscores the subsequent animosity he bore toward one-time Apple board member Eric Schmidt.

Jobs felt betrayed because Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin had treated him very much as a mentor. In 2008, he got into a shouting match with the pair, as well as with Android chief Andy Rubin, at Google's headquarters.

Jobs had offered Google an icon or two on the iPhone 's home page; but in January 2010, HTC released a phone with multi-touch and other iPhone-like features that prompted Jobs to sue.

"Our lawsuit is saying, 'Google, you fucking ripped off the iPhone , wholesale ripped us off.' Grand theft. I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple's $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong. I'm willing to go to thermonuclear war on this," Jobs told Isaacson the week after the suit was filed.

"They are scared to death, because they know they are guilty. Outside of Search, Google's products -- Android, Google Docs -- are shit."

Schmidt met with Jobs for coffee days later, but Jobs remained enraged and nothing was resolved.

"We've got you red-handed," Jobs told Schmidt. "I'm not interested in settling. I don't want your money, If you offer me $5 billion, I won't want it. I've got plenty of money. I want you to stop using our ideas in Android."

ON APPLE'S INTEGRATED APPROACH:

Jobs' infuriation stemmed partly from a fundamental conflict between Android's open-source approach and his own belief in a closed, carefully controlled ecosystem.

"We do these things not because we are control freaks," he said.

Addressing users' concerns, he said: "They are busy doing whatever it is they do best, and they want us to do what we do best. Their lives are crowded; they have other things to do than think about how to integrate their computers and devices."

"Look at the results -- Android's a mess .... We do it not to make money. We do it because we want to make great products, not crap like Android."

FLASH TIRADE GOT PERSONAL

Jobs' well-known tirade against Adobe Systems Inc's Flash multimedia software may have had its roots in the 1980s. Apple had invested in Adobe in 1985 and they collaborated to popularize desktop publishing.

But in 1999, Jobs -- after returning to Apple -- had asked Adobe to make its video-editing software available for the new iMac but the company refused, focusing instead on Microsoft Windows. Soon after, founder John Warnock retired.

"I helped put Adobe on the map," Jobs told Isaacson. "The soul of Adobe disappeared when Warnock left. He was the inventor, the person I related to. It's been a bunch of suits since then, and the company has turned out crap."

APPLE'S CONTROL OVER APPS, AND CENSORSHIP

Isaacson describes an exchange with Ryan Tate, editor of the tech gossip site Valleywag, that offers glimpses into Jobs' steadfast belief in carefully curating the types of applications available for downloading on the iPhone .

Tate emailed Jobs decrying Apple's heavy-handedness and asked: "If (Bob) Dylan was 20 today, how would he feel about your company .... Would he think the iPad had the faintest thing to do with 'revolution'? Revolutions are about freedom."

According to Tate, Jobs replied after midnight: "Yep ... freedom from programs that steal your private data. Freedom from programs that trash your battery. Freedom from porn. Yep, freedom. The times they are a changin', and some traditional PC folks feel like their world is slipping away. It is."

When Tate mentioned pornography was just fine with him and his wife, Jobs got snarky. "You might care about porn when you have kids. ... By the way, what have you done that's so great? Do you create anything, or just criticize others' work and belittle their motivations."

Tate told Isaacson he was impressed by Jobs' willingness to spar one-on-one with bloggers and customers.

ANTENNAGATE ... AND REED

"Antennagate" -- a faulty iPhone 4 antenna design that caused occasional dropped calls -- received a mountain of publicity, and Jobs came out publicly to acknowledge the mistake and announce a fix. But one little-known incident came to light in Isaacson's book.

Jobs, alerted to the possible defect while in Hawaii, first became defensive, then anguished in a conversation with director Art Levinson. Jobs brushed him off. But where Levinson failed, then-COO Tim Cook prevailed -- by quoting someone as saying Apple was becoming the new Microsoft.

"Let's get to the bottom of this," Jobs apparently said the next day. After reviewing AT&T Inc data, he realized there was indeed a problem and flew back from Hawaii, while marshaling his defenses: public relations guru Regis McKenna, admen Lee Clow and James Vincent -- and his son Reed, then a high-school senior.

"I'm going to be in meetings 24/7 for probably two days and I want you to be in every single one because you'll learn more in those two days than you would in two years at business school," Jobs said he told his son. INTEGRATED TELEVISION PLAN:

Jobs had many ideas and projects that he hoped to develop. Apart from wanting to delve into the textbook industry, he also wanted to make the television simple and elegant.

THE NEW 'SPACESHIP' HQ PLAN:

Jobs' wanted a showcase headquarters, something that no West Coast technology company had, according to the biography. To achieve that, Jobs hired the architectural firm of Norman Foster, which he considered to be the best in the world.

The final design resembled a spaceship, a four-story, circular building with a massive interior courtyard on a 150-acre piece of landscaped land. The design was finalized after multiple iterations as Jobs got very involved in the planning, both in the vision and details.

Foster's firm assigned 50 architects to the team, and every three weeks throughout 2010 they showed Jobs revised models and options, Isaacson wrote.

The building was initially shaped like a winding race-track made of three joined semicircles around a large central courtyard. But when Jobs showed off the design to Reed, the teenager joked that the aerial view reminded him of male genitalia. While Jobs dismissed his remarks as reflecting the mind-set of a teenager, he did mention it to the architects.

"Unfortunately, once I've told you that, you're never going to be able to erase that image from your mind," he said.

The shape was then modified to a simple circle.

ON U.S. PRESIDENT OBAMA:

Jobs met President Barack Obama in the fall of 2010 in Silicon Valley. "You are headed for a one-term presidency," Jobs told Obama. To prevent that, Obama needed to be more business friendly, he said.

Turkey earthquake

Rescue teams are digging frantically through dozens of collapsed buildings in eastern Turkey after a strong earthquake caused severe damage and left more than 200 people confirmed dead – a toll expected to rise substantially.

The 7.2-magnitude earthquake on Sunday morning particularly hit Ercis and Van, cities in a mountainous region near Turkey's border with Iran. There are expected to be significant casualties in surrounding villages where, according to the Turkish prime minister, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, almost all mud-brick homes had collapsed.

The interior minister, Idris Naim Sahin, who has been placed in charge of rescue operations, said the quake was known to have killed at least 120 people in Ercis, a community of about 75,000 people, and about 100 more in the much bigger city of Van, about 60 miles further south. More than 700 people were known to have been injured.

Rescue teams, aided by soldiers, spent the night in near-freezing temperatures digging through the remains of dozens of collapsed multi-storey buildings. At least 80 fell in Ercis, fuelling suspicions that, as with previous Turkish quakes, shoddy construction standards could greatly add to the death toll. About 40 buildings in Ercis still had people trapped beneath rubble, Sahin said.

At one of these, firefighters from the south-eastern city of Diyarbakir tried to reach four children believed trapped deep inside the remains of an apartment block. At another site, onlookers watched as rescuers tried to calm a 10-year-old boy whom they were attempting to free from beneath a concrete slab.

While some of the work was being carried out with cranes, many rescue efforts involved shovels, picks or bare hands. There were, however, some moments of success. Turkey's Dogan news agency reported that 24 people were pulled alive from rubble in just the two hours after midnight.

Aside from the rescue efforts there is a pressing need to provide shelter to thousands of survivors, many of whom will not be able to return to their damaged homes, particularly as dozens of aftershocks continue to shake the region.

Many people spent the night outdoors around campfires, or sought shelter with relatives. The Red Crescent has begun distributing an initial allocation of 4,000 tents, 11,000 blankets, stoves and food. A temporary tent city was being set up inside a sports stadium in Ercis.

One nurse in Ercis told the CNN Turk TV news channel that the town's hospital was so badly damaged staff were treating injured in the garden, and bodies were being left outside the building.

A number of countries have offered assistance with both relief aid and search and rescue efforts. Erdoğan said Turkey was able to cope for the time being.

Erdoğan travelled to the region on Sunday, firstly viewing the destruction in Ercis via helicopter. At a late night press conference in Van he expressed fears for people in outlying villages. "Because the buildings are made of mud-brick, they are more vulnerable to quakes. I must say that almost all buildings in such villages are destroyed," he said. He returned to Ankara to chair a cabinet meeting about the disaster.

Turkey's seismological institute said on Sunday it anticipated a death toll of up to 1,000, but Erdoğan said it was too soon to predict such figures. "We don't know how many people are in the ruins of collapsed buildings, it would be wrong to give a number."

The quake was also felt in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, and several Iranian towns close to the border, but there were no reports of injuries or damage.

Earthquakes are common in Turkey, which is crossed by a number of faultlines. The most significant one in recent years struck the western city of Izmit in 1999. The official death toll was 17,000, although some reports suggested the real figure was higher. Poorly built housing was blamed for many deaths, and tens of thousands more people were left homeless as other buildings were damaged beyond repair.

Ra.One (Hindi: रा.वन) is an upcoming 2011 Hindi science fiction superhero film written and directed by Anubhav Sinha, and starring Shahrukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal in the lead roles. It also stars Shahana Goswami, Dalip Tahil and Chinese-American actor Tom Wu in supporting roles, along with Rajinikanth, Sanjay Dutt and Priyanka Chopra in guest appearances. The film is jointly produced by Eros International and Khan's production company, Red Chillies Entertainment,^[1] and was originally scheduled to release in the summer of 2011. However, due to extensive post-production work involving special effects and the 3D conversion, its release was postponed, and is now set to have a worldwide release during the Diwali weekend of October 26, 2011.^[2] Ra.One is currently India's most expensive film to date^[3] and will be released in both 2D and 3D formats across 3,200 screens in India,^[4] along with its dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu and German.^[5]

Development

According to director Anubhav Sinha, the idea of making Ra.One originated while he was watching television six years ago.^[7] Upon writing the script, he proposed the idea to Shahrukh Khan several years later who instantly agreed to produce and star in it.^[7] Red Chillies Entertainment's Keitan Yadav revealed that during the release of Main Hoon Na (2004), Khan was keen on making a VFX-loaded film that was larger than life.^[8] His production company continued working on other projects and seeking for the right film until they finally decided on Ra.One.^[8] Prior to starting the film, Khan approached several directors to helm the project but they all refused due to various concerns.^[9] As pre-production work began to occur in 2007, Sinha agreed to direct the film and spent several months going through video clips, digital art portals and comic books; he later explained that this process helped him in creating a novel character.^[10]

"Ra.One is the modern, new age technology version of our mythological "Raavan", who was a mixture of ten different evil characters. I am essaying the role of G.One or better say "Jeevan", a superhero who saves the mankind from Ra.One's torment. Through this film, I want to prove that Indian superheroes can also be as cool as the international ones."^[11]

The film's crew comprises of more than 5,000 members from India, Italy and the US, and was pieced together by more than 1,000 people, working in shifts, in around 15 studios across the world.^[10] Special effects creator Robert Kurtzman was assigned to design the suits of Khan and Rampal's characters. While both the actors shot the film wearing a simple suit, a good deal of sparkle and polishing was later added to enhance its look.^[8] Nicola Pecorini was roped in as the director of photography, with V. Manikandan providing extra assistance, and Martin Walsh was responsible to edit the film.^[10] Sound designer Resul Pookutty was assigned the duty of enhancing the sound effects with the use of the Dolby Surround 7.1 system. In an interview, he explained, "Ra.One is not just a movie experience [...] It requires a very unconventional sound and visual quality for which we are installing the required equipment."^[10] In October 2011, post-production work on Ra.One faced a minor setback when Pookutty's studio-space in Andheri, Mumbai got flooded, and eventually damaged some of the film's footage.^[12]

Due to the revived interest in 3D technology in India, brought in by the success of Haunted – 3D (2011), the makers of the film announced that they were contemplating on turning portions of the movie into 3D. Khan revealed in an interview that "some part[s] of the film we are trying to do in 3D and Prime Focus is doing that for us. They have a technology with which after you have shot the film, it could be converted into 3D. But there are reservations on it because you know that we have to shoot that with different cameras."^[13] In July 2011, it was announced that the entire film would be converted into 3D, a process that required the collaboration of several individuals.^[14] The film is reported to have close to 3,500 VFX shots, with 800 of them being solely dedicated to G.One's suit alone, thus exceeding the total amount of shots that was used in the 2009 Hollywood film Avatar.^[8] Keitan Yadav notes: "There is no software or technique in the industry that we have not used for this film. For 3D, we have used software like Maya, Houdini and Macs. For composites, we have used Nuke and Shake. We have even written our own programmes. We programmed certain things rather than doing them manually."^[8]

Reports of similarities between Ra.One and the 2010 Tamil release Enthiran have been surfacing since the former entered principal photography. When asked about the comparisons, Khan noted "They [both] are different films. I will not like to talk about anyone else's film but Rajni sir is respectable to all of us."^[15]

8051 Flash Programmer

Now we have to introduce the most important part of your tool chest. Whether you use Simulator, Debugger or IDE or not, you definitely need a kind of programming facility to fuse your microcontroller with the target code. Only then you can watch how your design works. If you have an expanded design, then you may need to program the EPROM with the program code. Sometimes, you may keep a part of application code in the Flash/EPROM version of the 8031 and remaining part in an EPROM (in an expanded system).

Time has come to introduce another useful tool, 8051 Programmer. This Programmer supports the devices in the 8031 family of Atmel, AT89SXX, and its AVR microcontroller AT90SXXXX series Controllers. The programmer supports both parallel and SPI programming for your convenience. A powerful window's based GUI facility makes your programming task an easy one.

The circuit diagram of the stand-alone spi programmer, the power to the interface is provided by the PC USB port which can supply a max of 100mA current. Get a cheap USB cable, cut the cable other end connector and attach a crimp shell connector to this end, red wire is 5V and black is 0V.

The 74HCT541 ic isolate and buffer the parallel port signals. It is necessary to use the HCT type ic in order to make sure the programmer should also work with 3V type parallel port. For the u-controller a 40 pin ZIF socket can be used.

This programmer circuit can be use to program the 89S series devices and the AVR series devices which are pin compatible to 8051, like 90S8515. For other AVR series devices the user can make an adapter board for 20, 28 and 40 pin devices. The pin numbers shown in brackets correspond to PC parallel port connector.

Also make sure do not program the RSTDISBL fuse in ATmega8, ATtiny26 and ATtiny2313 otherwise further spi programming is disable and you will need a parallel programmer to enable the
spi programming. For the fuses setting consult the datasheet of the respective device.

For the auto hardware detection it is necessary to short pin 2 and 12 of DB25 connector, otherwise the
software uses the default parallel port i.e. LPT1.

Comparative study of different families: 8051, AVR/ATmega, PIC

8051: These microcontrollers are old but still trendy and most of the companies fabricate these microcontrollers. The older types of 8051 have 12 clocks per instruction that make it sluggish whereas the recent 8051 have 6 clocks per instruction. The 8051 microcontroller does not have an in built memory bus and A/D converters. In 1980, Intel fabricated the single chip microcontroller 8051 with Harvard architecture.

PIC: Programmable Interface Controller is usually referred as PIC. They are slightly older than 8051 microcontrollers but excel cause of their small low pin count devices. They perform well and are affordable. The Microchip technology fabricated the single chip microcontroller PIC with Harvard architecture. The programming part is very tedious and hence it is not recommended for beginners.

AVR: In 1996, Atmel fabricated this single chip microcontroller with a modified Harvard Architecture. This chip is loaded with C- compiler, Free IDE and many more features. This microcontroller is a bit difficult for the starters to handle.

Serial Communication

To establish a serial communication link between the PC and the 8051.

Description:
Serial communication is often used either to control or to receive data from an embedded microprocessor. Serial communication is a form of I/O in which the bits of a byte begin transferred appear one after the other in a timed sequence on a single wire. Serial communication has become the standard for intercomputer
communication. In this lab, we'll try to build a serial link between 8051 and PC using RS232.

RS232C
The example serial waveforms in Fig 1 show the waveform on a single conductor to transmit a byte (0x41) serially. The upper waveform is the TTL-level waveform seen at the transmit pin of 8051. The lower waveform shows the same waveform converted to RS232C levels. The voltage level of the RS232C are used to assure error-free transmission over greater distances than would be possible with TTL levels.
As shown in Fig 1, each byte is preceded by a start bit and followed by one stop bit. The start and stop bits are used to synchronize the serial recivers. The data byte is always transmitted least-significant-bit first. For error checking it is possible to include a parity bit as well, just prior to the stop bit. The bits are transmitted at specific time intervals determined by the baud rate of the serial signal. The baud rate is the reciprocal of the time to send 1 bit. Error-free serial communication requires that the baud rate, number of data bits, number of stop bits, and presence or absence of a parity bit be the same at the transmitter and at the receiver.

Using the Serial Port
8051 provides a transmit channel and a receive channel of serial communication. The transmit data pin (TXD) is specified at P3.1, and the receive data pin (RXD) is at P3.0. The serial signals provided on these pins are TTL signal levels and must be boosted and inverted through a suitable converter(LT1130CN is used in this lab) to comply with RS232 standard.
All modes are controlled through SCON, the Serial CONtrol register. The SCON bits are defined as SM0, SM1, SM2, REN, TB8, RB8, TI, RI from MSB to LSB. The timers are controlled using TMOD, the Timer MODe register, and TCON, the Timer CONtrol register.

provide precisely controlled motor power. Stepper motors are devices that rotate a
precise number of degrees for each "step" applied, as opposed to regular motors,
which simply rotate continuously when power is applied. Driving a stepper motor
involves applying a series of voltages to the four(typically) coils of the stepper
motor. The coils are energized one or two at a time to cause the motor to
rotate one step.

Assignment: In this lab, you'll design a program to do the following jobs:
1. Set up the stepper motor and stepper motor driver circuit
2. Interface the PC to the 8051 through a serial communication link. Control the movement of the stepper motor by characters received from the PC.
• When the character 'l' is received from the PC, make the stepper motor turn left. Also display the message "Moving left" on an LCD interfaced to the 8051.
• When the character 'r' is received from the PC, make the stepper motor turn in the opposite direction and the mesasge "Moving Right" should be displayed on the LCD.

5 Speaking Rules you need to know!

1. Don't study grammar
This rule might sound strange to many ESL students, but it is one of the most important rules. If you want to pass examinations, then study grammar. However, if you want to become fluent in English, then you should try to learn English without studying the grammar.

Studying grammar will only slow you down and confuse you. You will think about the rules when creating sentences instead of naturally saying a sentence like a native. Remember that only a small fraction of English speakers know more than 20% of all the grammar rules. Many ESL students know more grammar than native speakers. I can confidently say this with experience. I am a native English speaker, majored in English Literature, and have been teaching English for more than 10 years. However, many of my students know more details about English grammar than I do. I can easily look up the definition and apply it, but I don't know it off the top of my head.

I often ask my native English friends some grammar questions, and only a few of them know the correct answer. However, they are fluent in English and can read, speak, listen, and communicate effectively.

Do you want to be able to recite the definition of a causative verb, or do you want to be able to speak English fluently?

2. Learn and study phrases

Many students learn vocabulary and try to put many words together to create a proper sentence. It amazes me how many words some of my students know, but they cannot create a proper sentence. The reason is because they didn't study phrases. When children learn a language, they learn both words and phrases together. Likewise, you need to study and learn phrases.

If you know 1000 words, you might not be able to say one correct sentence. But if you know 1 phrase, you can make hundreds of correct sentences. If you know 100 phrases, you will be surprised at how many correct sentences you will be able to say. Finally, when you know only a 1000 phrases, you will be almost a fluent English speaker.

The English Speaking Basics section is a great example of making numerous sentences with a single phrase. So don't spend hours and hours learning many different words. Use that time to study phrases instead and you will be closer to English fluency.

Don't translate

When you want to create an English sentence, do not translate the words from your Mother tongue. The order of words is probably completely different and you will be both slow and incorrect by doing this. Instead, learn phrases and sentences so you don't have to think about the words you are saying. It should be automatic.

Another problem with translating is that you will be trying to incorporate grammar rules that you have learned. Translating and thinking about the grammar to create English sentences is incorrect and should be avoided.

3. Reading and Listening is NOT enough. Practice Speaking what you hear!

Reading, listening, and speaking are the most important aspects of any language. The same is true for English. However, speaking is the only requirement to be fluent. It is normal for babies and children to learn speaking first, become fluent, then start reading, then writing. So the natural order is listening, speaking, reading, then writing.

First Problem
Isn't it strange that schools across the world teach reading first, then writing, then listening, and finally speaking? Although it is different, the main reason is because when you learn a second language, you need to read material to understand and learn it. So even though the natural order is listening, speaking, reading, then writing, the order for ESL students is reading, listening, speaking, then writing.

Second Problem
The reason many people can read and listen is because that's all they practice. But in order to speak English fluently, you need to practice speaking. Don't stop at the listening portion, and when you study, don't just listen. Speak out loud the material you are listening to and practice what you hear. Practice speaking out loud until your mouth and brain can do it without any effort. By doing so, you will be able to speak English fluently.

4. Submerge yourself

Being able to speak a language is not related to how smart you are. Anyone can learn how to speak any language. This is a proven fact by everyone in the world. Everyone can speak at least one language. Whether you are intelligent, or lacking some brain power, you are able to speak one language.

This was achieved by being around that language at all times. In your country, you hear and speak your language constantly. You will notice that many people who are good English speakers are the ones who studied in an English speaking school. They can speak English not because they went to an English speaking school, but because they had an environment where they can be around English speaking people constantly.

There are also some people who study abroad and learn very little. That is because they went to an English speaking school, but found friends from their own country and didn't practice English.

You don't have to go anywhere to become a fluent English speaker. You only need to surround yourself with English. You can do this by making rules with your existing friends that you will only speak English. You can also carry around an iPod and constantly listen to English sentences. As you can see, you can achieve results by changing what your surroundings are. Submerge yourself in English and you will learn several times faster.

5. Study correct material

A common phrase that is incorrect is, "Practice makes perfect." This is far from the truth. Practice only makes what you are practicing permanent. If you practice the incorrect sentence, you will have perfected saying the sentence incorrectly. Therefore, it is important that you study material that is commonly used by most people.

Another problem I see is that many students study the news. However, the language they speak is more formal and the content they use is more political and not used in regular life. It is important to understand what they are saying, but this is more of an advanced lesson that should be studied after learning the fundamental basics of English.

Studying English with a friend who is not a native English speaker is both good and bad. You should be aware of the pro's and con's of speaking with a non native speaking friend. Practicing with a non native person will give you practice. You can also motivate each other and point out basic mistakes. But you might pick up bad habits from one another if you are not sure about what are correct and incorrect sentences. So use these practice times as a time period to practice the correct material you studied. Not to learn how to say a sentence.

In short, study English material that you can trust, that is commonly used, and that is correct.

You can easily and effectivily block access to a website by adding it to your Windows HOSTS file.(Yes, Hosts is capitalised for some strange reason). Without any software. Doesn't matter what browser that you use.

1.Go to your HOSTS file which is located at:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC for windows Vista and XP
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC for Windows 2k
C:\WINDOWS for Windows 98 and ME

2. Open HOSTS with Notepad.

The default Windows HOSTS looks like this:

3. Directly under the line that says 127.0.0.1 Localhost, you will want to type:

For example to block the MySpace.com homepage (highly recommended!), simply type:

Other parts of MySpace could be blocked in a similar way:

127.0.0.1 search.myspace.com
127.0.0.1 profile.myspace.com
etc etc etc...

You may need to add sites with both with and without the "www.". Test after blocking to make sure you got it right.

You can add as many sites as you wish to block in this fashion. I, myself, have over 12000 undesireable and dangerous sites in my personal HOSTS file!

4. Close Notepad and answer "Yes" when prompted.

5. Reboot your computer and attempt to access your now blocked website. You should see a Cannot find server or DNS Error saying: "The page cannot be displayed".

This is the simplest circuit to make two LED blink back and forth. The technical term for this circuit is “astable multivibrator”.

It’s really easy to put together, with only 10 parts.

[Part List]

* 2 x LEDs – any color. Red, yellow, and green are safe.
* 2 x NPN transistors – just about any small transistor. I used PN2222A, but you can use 2N3904, 2N4401, etc.
* 2 x Capacitor – around 10 – 22 uF. 6V or higher. Electrochemical capacitors are the easiest to find.
* 2 x 220 ohm resisters – anything from 200 to 1k ohm of any type should work.
* 2 x 47k ohm resisters – anything from 22k to 100k ohm should work. Value of these changes the timing of blinking (larger the value, slower the blinking).

You can easily obtain the parts from your local Redioshack.

As per the requirement of time, conservation of water is necessary.And this project is meant, focusing on this fact.

In this project,hcf4066be ic is used.One buzzer is placed along with 9 resistors.The transistor used is 15479 with 4 LEDs.

Working:-

When we need to fill the water tank we switch on the motor but usually forget to switch it off.And the wastage of water takes place.
But in this project, as soon as the water level increases in the tank, by the time LEDs turn on one by one.The last LED i.e. No. 4 turns on just before the tank fills completely.This results in the beep sound made by the buzzer automatically.By this intimation, we can switch off the motor.

Future Expantion:-

1. An automatic switch can also be used in it so that it can work itself.
(Because of which the switch automatically turns off before the tank fills)
2. In future, it can be used to get prevention from situations like flood.
3. If we connect this project with computer, it provides us signals indicating the water level.

Benifits:-

1. We can conserve water.

Every month University of Alabama in Huntsville climatologists John Christy and Roy Spencer report the latest global temperature trends from satellite data. Below are the newest data updated through January, 2010.

From the University of Alabama in Huntsville press release, the satellite data report that this has been the warmest January in 32 years and is 3rd warmest month overall. Go here for the satellite data.

Global climate trend since Nov. 16, 1978: +0.13 C per decade

January temperatures (preliminary)

Global composite temp.: +0.72 C (about 1.3 degrees Fahrenheit) above 20-year average for January.

Northern Hemisphere: +0.84 C (about 1.51 degrees Fahrenheit) above 20-year average for January.

Southern Hemisphere: +0.61 C (about 1.1 degrees Fahreneheit) above 20-year average for January.

Northern Hemisphere: +0.33 C above 20-year average

Southern Hemisphere: +0.25 C above 20-year average

(All temperature anomalies are based on a 20-year average (1979-1998) for the month reported.)

Notes on data released Feb. 10, 2010:

A large El Nino Pacific Ocean warming event exposed the atmosphere to enough extra heat energy to cause the warmest January and the third warmest month overall in 32 years, and the warmest month in almost a decade (compared to seasonal norms), according to Dr. John Christy, professor of atmospheric science and director of the Earth System Science Center (ESSC) at The University of Alabama in Huntsville.

"This has the potential of breaking the records set in February and April 1998, during the 'El Nino of the Century,'" Christy said. "I looked at sea surface temperatures in the Central Pacific and it wasn't as warm as 1998, but what is there is spread out further than it was in 1998. That exposes the atmosphere to a lot of extra heat."
